Critical Care & Veterinary Specialists of Sarasota LLC (CCVSS) has donated 17 emergency field kits, and the training to use them, to Sarasota County’s K-9 teams.
The kits will allow the K-9 unit officers to give potentially life-saving assistance until an emergency veterinary clinic can be reached if their dogs are injured on duty in the field, according to Dr. Anne Chauvet of CCVSS, who supplied and stocked the emergency kits along with Webster Veterinary Supply and MEDOX.
The kits and emergency care training for the officers are being provided to K-9 units at the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, Sarasota Police Department, Venice Police Department and North Port Police Department.
“The kits contain basic medical supplies such as wound care items for field dressing injuries along with oxygen, catheters and endotrachial tubes in case a dog is not able to be transported immediately to an emergency clinic,” Chauvet said.
“These K-9 teams serve us every day and are willing to put themselves heroically in harm’s way. We wanted to ensure the officers have the tools to help their canine partners if needed. We are grateful to Webster Veterinary Supply and MEDOX for their generous donations to the kits.”
Webster Veterinary Supply is a division of Patterson Companies, Inc., of Devens, Mass. It is a leading national distributor of veterinary supplies to companion animal veterinary clinics. MEDOX is a Sarasota-based supplier of medical oxygen and healthcare equipment.
