After months of visiting Sarasota County Animal Services, the Sarasota Dog team started to notice a trend: most of these dogs are on the larger side. It’s very rare that we’ve had a chance to photograph a pint-sized pooch under 30 pounds. Rescues from all around our area are quick to snatch up the little guys, which is a blessing to SCAS. But this week we had a chance to meet a small, sweet boy named Howie.
This gentle soul is a gray and white Smooth Coated Chihuahua mix. Brought in as a stray, Howie has been receiving loving care at SCAS since early July. He didn’t mind too much that we were taking shots of his mug, just as long as those cookies kept coming! He was pretty content munching away.
The staff estimates that Howie is around 7-8 years old. Neutered and up to date on his shots. He enjoys short walks – perfect for anyone looking for a low maintenance best friend. If you have a home, he’ll bring the love!
Next up is our big boy Winchester. A stunning Redbone Coonhound this stud is!
Winchester and his female companion, Kimber, were found roaming Myakka Valley Ranches and were brought to the shelter earlier this month. It would be ideal for these two to go home together, as they are very much bonded. He’s taken a more laid back role but both are pretty easy-going and mellow pups.
Winchester exhibited good manners including sit and shake. Sweet and gentle, just the way we love ‘em! Both volunteers we talked with said he’s great on a leash and an all-around great dog. What more could you ask for?
