Life is hectic. Life is hard. We all get caught up in business, family, the house, the laundry – whatever is the squeakiest wheel seems to get our attention. But for my dogs, the sun pretty much rises and sets with me. If I am not on my marks then why should my pups suffer?
So, here is my pledge to Kodiak and Finn for 2016 for a happy and healthy new year.
- I will never run out of healthy dog food and run to Publix at the last minute on a Sunday. There is nothing in that pet aisle that is good for you.
- The yard, I will figure out how use the lawn mower, (so that I don’t have to badger your dad) to make sure the grass is short and we don’t get as hitchhikers on your coats.
- Every day, a couple of times a day, we’ll work on training by playing for a couple of minutes at a time. And, when we get something right … we’ll celebrate like we mean it.
- I’ll try really hard not to raise my voice. Intellectually, I know it’s not helpful. Everything I’ve read says it’s the worst thing I can do but, sometimes when frustrations are compounded, I do it and I’m sorry. It won’t happen this year.
- Increase my understanding of you. I promise to keep reading and exploring to get closer to what you are thinking and what makes you happy and keeps you healthy. 2015 unlocked a series of studies verifying how important dogs are to humans from decreasing kid’s chances of developing asthma to stabilizing both mental and physical health. There must be something more, something different that we don’t know about that can be beneficial to you.
At the end of the day, seeing these faces in the window is what makes it all worthwhile – and FUN!
Here to the best year ever to you and your dogs!
