Kristen Collins of the ASPCA – Communicating with your Dog

Kristen Collins is the Director of Anti-Cruelty Behavior Services for ASPCA. Ms. Collins’ work with the ACBT focuses on the evaluation and proper placement of animals seized in dog fighting, puppy mill and hoarding cases. Through specialized behavior assessments, the team gathers information to ensure the best outcome for victims of animal cruelty and provide supporting evidence for prosecution. Kristen was on the scene in Joplin, Missouri last year during the pet relief program for tornado victims helping to re-unite and re-home more than 1300 pets.

In this episode of the Dogcast, Kristen talks with our Rover Reporter about how to read your pets emotions through body language, breaking bad habits and the ASPCA’s virtual training site. The web site is a vast resource of articles and solutions that are searchable by type of pet and the type of problem your are experiencing. Dog Day Afternoon: Your sneak peek of the May 14th event

Saturday May 14th is Dog Day Afternoon at Gettel Toyota in Bradenton. Candace Botha, Publisher of Sarasota Pet Magazine chats with SarasotaDog’s Rover Reporter about this family fun day.

Kids will enjoy music, face painting a drawing contest! Dog Owners will have a chance to ask questions of a professional dog trainer, enter a Doggy Costume Contest or try their hand and paws in an interactive agility demonstration.

The Humane Society of Manatee, Canine Castaways, Safe Haven, Racing Dog Rescue Project and Satchel’s Last Resort will there with adorable, adoptable dogs. This is a great way to meet and greet your potential new family member and chat with the folks who have been caring for the pet.

Here’s Sammie, a two and a half year old Retriever – Labrador mix. Such a face! Don’t let her name fool you,

Sammie is a girlie, girl. Loves to play in the yard and cuddle up on the couch. Sammie is one of many that will be with us on May 14th.
