I can not believe how the time has flown and how much progress has been made since these two dogs were rescued from the Venice, Florida hoarding situation. In just over two weeks with me, they’ve learned that it’s fun to be petted, that they can play! and that walking around outside is something that happens every day.
Ralphie’s incision from neutering is all healed up and I can’t wait to have him groomed. His transition has been a little easier than Joe’s has been. Ralphie does a full body wag – and I swear that he is smiling.
When Joe was brought into rescue, he had to be shaved down to the skin. His coat is coming back in now and he’s starting to look just a little fluffy around the edges, but it will be a while before he needs to see a groomer, that is for sure! I’ve put a harness and light leash on him because he still runs from me- this way I can step on the leash as he runs by and he doesn’t have the stress of being chased down.
When I do pick him up, he is very open to cuddling, he’s just not seeking it out yet. They’ve moved into a smaller crate and – knock on wood – there haven’t been any accidents at all while they are confined.
These boys are ready to go to a forever home now and will make wonderful companions for a loving family. Since I’ve been fostering these pups, lots and lots of people have asked me “When will they be ready”, the answer is now! But in reality, they could have gone into the right home at any time.
