If you live in Palmer Ranch area and have a dog, visiting the dog park is a bit of an expedition. Your closest choices are Lakeview Paw Park or all the way down to Venice’s Woodmere Park.
After years of lobbying the County and looking for just the right location, a possibility of a park is now under consideration on Bay Street in Osprey. Sarasota County residents are encouraged to look at the plan and show their support for the park at the community workshop at Historic Spanish Point, 337 N. Tamiami Trail in Osprey, Thursday November 16th from 5:30 to 7 pm.
The new off-leash park would become part of the existing Bay Street Park where there is already a playground, a pavilion and a trail as well as restrooms. About 3/4 of an acre would be fenced and dedicated to large dogs and about 1/4 acre for small dogs.
While there will not be a formal oral presentation, concept boards will show renderings of the park and Sarasota County park personnel will be on hand to answer question and explain the park concept.
Why you need to go to support the park:
Funding for community projects is determined by community interest. Whether you live in Palmer Ranch or somewhere else, an additional off-leash park will contribute to Sarasota County’s overall health and well being.
You’ve all heard, “A tired dog is a good dog”. Active dogs need to run, Pretty hard to do with an owner on the other end of your leash. Socializing dogs helps them become better citizens and less likely to become aggressive. And getting people out into the parks is healthy too. You just might make some friends.
See you at Historic Spanish Point, Thursday evening, November 16th from 5:30 to 7. Humans only please.
