Just when you least expect it, your dog can go from clean to stinky – our dog was rolling over a dead snake in the yard today! Before you pop your pup into a shower, it’s important to remember that your dog’s skin has a different chemical composition – and he or she will need special shampoos.
We talked with Sheri Fiset, owner of Happy Dog Pet Salon for some tips on choosing dog bathing products. Sheri says “Keep it natural, look for shampoos with Essential Fatty Acids, Vitamin E, Aloe Vera, Citrus, Tea Tree Oil or Eucalyptus.”
Sheri also advised that we should avoid products with added colors, fragrance and sulfates which can cause skin irritation, scratching and hot spots.
For detangling, Sheri says to start with a soft wire brush and gently pull away from the dog’s skin. When the tangles are out, go over your dog with a comb to make sure their coat is tangle free before bathing.
