Yesterday’s peaceful protest against Greyhound racing in Sarasota, Florida, ticked more than a few boxes on the mission to end this sport.
- Sarasota’s ABC -7 was on scene to cover the event and broadcast the segment live reaching thousands of residents with the message.
- Through social media – more than 25 local and regional people united in picket lines to create a buzz on the street.
- Clearly, track officials were on point about the demonstration with their banner squarely facing the demonstrators with the direction of “Picket Tallahassee Not Us”.
A rousing if not vitriolic dialog took place on Facebook in advance of the 90 minute demonstration. According to Animal Advocate Carolyn Repeta “hundreds of thousands Of dogs have been exterminated in 100 years dogs have been racing in this bloodsport.”
For us, nothing more need be said. More work is needed to engage citizens to become knowledgeable about this sport. If track owners do not want the mandate for racing to continue in order to function as wagering parlors – then its up to the citizens to convince lawmakers to enact change.
