If you have a dog with ear hair, I’m sure you’ve heard all about the infections your dog will get if you don’t pluck that hair!
The truth of the matter is, newest research is saying this is not entirely accurate, and in some cases, plucking is causing more harm than good. The bottom line is, “healthy ears are self cleaning” says Dr. Heide Newton, veterinary dermatologist.
The ear hair actually helps direct wax, dirt and build up out of the ear, it is only with infected, or unhealthy ears, that you want to pluck the hair. When you pluck the hair of healthy ears it can cause swelling and irritation when otherwise there were no problems. Always check with your veterinarian about the specific needs of your pet.
