Oscar-inspired, The Pawscars! Satchel’s Celebrates Giving Day

And the Award Goes to…Giving Back: Satchel’s Last Resort Hosts Oscars-Inspired Fundraiser at Big Top Live

Event on September 6 to Include Dog and Cat Themed Movie Posters, Food Trucks, Live Music from Gas House Gorillas, Raffles and More

Satchel’s Last Resort Animal Shelter and Sanctuary is rolling out the red carpet for “Satchel’s Giving Day,” a fundraiser that commemorates the birthday of Satchel, the dog who started it all. This year’s event will bring the Hollywood glamor of the Oscars, or in this case the “Pawscars,” to Sarasota. Satchel’s Giving Day will take place at Big Top Live on Saturday, September 6, from 6-9pm. Admission to the event is free and overflow parking is available at the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, with a shuttle available for transportation between the lot and Big Top Live.

Headlining the event is Gas House Gorillas, a four-piece, female fronted rock band who play throughout Sarasota and Charlotte counties. They play some of the best dance, rock, pop, and classic rock songs throughout the area. Plus, they have amazing costumes.

While taking in the music, guests in attendance can try their luck at various raffle baskets, sample food offerings from Taco Fusion and Origins, and enjoy beer at a discounted price with the purchase of a wristband.

As part of the Pawscars theme, supporters can donate $50 and receive a special digital movie poster designed with their cat or dog featured in it. Select movies include “The Dog Father,” inspired by The Godfather, “Paws,” taken from the movie Jaws, and “Fast & Furriest,” inspired by the Fast and Furious franchise, to name a few. To see the full list of movie options and to donate for your movie poster, please use the linked form.

Leading up to the event, supporters can donate to vote for their favorite Satchel’s dog or cat in a variety of Pawscars award categories, including Best Supporting Snuggle, Best Nap Scene, Best Performance at an Offsite Event, and more. Winners will be announced at Satchel’s Giving Day and will have their movie posters displayed throughout the event. To vote, visit the linked form.

“At Satchel’s, every animal is worthy of an award, and this year, Satchel’s Giving Day is giving us the chance to honor them in a Blockbuster style,” said Page Knoebel, Founder of Satchel’s Last Resort. “Satchel’s Giving Day was started to commemorate my dog, Satchel, who would have been 36 this year. He’s the dog who started it all, and deserves a standing ovation for being the inspiration for what this organization has become.”

Satchel’s Giving Day promises to be an unforgettable evening filled with excitement and Hollywood glam, all aimed at supporting the mission of Satchel’s Last Resort. About Satchel’s Last Resort

Satchel’s Last Resort is a true no-kill animal shelter/sanctuary whose mission is to rescue, rehab and rehome dogs and cats with nowhere else to go because of breed, behavior or medical issues. Our organization believes all dogs and cats are created equal and deserve to live the life of a beloved pet. We actively seek forever homes tailored to the needs of our dogs and cats so they can live the rest of their lives among a family of their own. We believe that by harnessing the unconditional love that the animals in our sanctuary put forth daily, the world becomes a brighter place for animals and people.
