Repairing Dog Toys – Tonic for Rainy Days

If you have dogs, and you live in Sarasota, you know how dogs can get bored when they can’t go outside to play.  One rainy night a couple of days ago, we decided to take some action.  Our dog toy box was stuffed full of misfit, squeaker-less toys that long ago lost their appeal when they lost their ability to squeak.  It was time for some Dog Toy Repair.Full dog toy box| Sarasota Dog

Really wanted to dump the whole thing in the washer, but know that whatever precious little stuffing was left, would be all over the washer drum.  We decided the mending should come first.

I dug around in the sewing box and found some embroidery thread and needles.   It just looked more fun, and more secure to bring these toys back to life.

Because we often take pictures of dogs at events, we had some extra squeakers on hand – the noise really helps get their attention.   You can order these online, and have them in a couple of days.

Plastic Dog Toy Squeakers | Sarasota Dog

These came from Good Buy on Amazon.  Fifty squeakers cost about $7.00.  Just search plastic squeakers and you’ll find them.  (Remember, dog toy play should always be supervised!)

After we inserted some batting to the toys, (sometimes we just scrunched up some toys that were beyond repair), and then just slipped in  the squeaker.

We used the blanket stitch to firmly close the opening.

When everything was done we popped the toys in the washer on gentle cycle and dried them.   Our boys were happy, and we saved a few bucks!  The most fun though was sitting on the floor with the dogs going through their toys.  Never have done that before but now, I will, whenever I feel like I really need to connect.  They loved it!

Here’s a quick list of what you’ll need:

Have fun!
