The Gulf Gate Library’s Read to Your Furry Friends event happens every Wednesday from 4pm -5pm. This convergence of reading and dog love is a joint initiative between the Humane Society of Sarasota and the Library. Children aged 5+ are paired with therapy dogs, who will listen to the kids read to them. What a great way to encourage reading and instill respect for the human animal bond at an early age.
James Mitchell, Library Manager told us that he expects about 30 kids each week. Each child will have one-on-one time with a dog. Dog owners are close by, and parent can stay close but not too close. Dogs tend to focus on adults in the room – and this is about kids and the dogs bonding. Registration is at 3:00 pm.
