Wheels for Wags: Donate your old bike to help shelter pets

Sarasota resident Bill Morse is putting his skills to work for needy pets. This summer Bill opened a bicycle repair service, recycling used bikes and selling them at affordable prices at the Swap Meet on Tuttle across from the VFW. Within a few short weeks it became clear that his business was going to take off.

In early fall, Bill had an idea of blending is budding business with his other passion of helping shelter pets and a new channel of support was formed.”The Wheels for Wags program is just one way I can help needy animals. My wife and are longtime animal lovers and shelter supporters. When I started my bike repair service, it came to me that we could help by fixing up donating bikes, selling them at a reasonable price and then giving the proceeds to Satchel’s Last Resort. It’s a win-win for the community.” A certified Schwinn mechanic, Bill works on all kinds of bikes and trikes.

Iris Eastman, Executive Director of Satchel’s Last Resort told us “Running an animal shelter in this economy is challenging on a good day. More than ever, we need participation from our local residents to help with volunteering and donations. Bill Morse’s idea is ingenuity in action – he’ll be using his skills to not only recycle and repurpose old bikes and that helps the environment. These reconditioned bikes will be available at a price that everyone can afford – and the monies will flow through to our shelter, Satchel’s Last Resort. It’s a win-win for the community and we are extremely grateful.”

“What we need now are bikes to fix up so that we can get more money into the shelter” Bill told us. If you have a bike to donate, just call Bill at 941-378-4750 and he will be there to pick it up. Once it is sold the proceeds will benefit Satchel’s Last Resort.
