Cutting edge technology at CriticalVetCare

CriticalVetCare is among the first 10 clinics worldwide to add a new generation of high definition computer-aided tomography equipment (CT scan) with the installation of a 3D Vimago, and it is the first clinic locally with CT scanning capability in-house.

The Epica Medical Innovation’s Vimago CT Scan uses new imaging technology to provide enhanced 3D viewing and modeling of the entire body with high definition images of areas ranging from the lungs and thorax, abdomen, nasal passage and sinuses, ears and some joints, said Dr. Anne Chauvet, a veterinary neurologist and founder of CriticalVetCare (CVC). The Vimago CT Scan also is safer for patients because it uses 80 to 90 percent less radiation than other high-end scanners, and full body scans take just minutes.  Since animals must be sedated to be scanned, it also is safer because of reduced anesthetic risks, Chauvet said.

“This new CT technology is state-of-the-art and allows us to scan the entire body and reconstruct any of its systems from skin or muscles to blood vessels,” she said.  “With its 3D capabilities we can manipulate the image to look at the body from any angle.”

The new scanner accommodates patients ranging from pocket pets to Great Danes, she said.  CriticalVetCare also houses a full lab, ultrasound, endoscope, digital radiology, and its list of “firsts” for the area in advanced veterinary medicine includes a hyperbaric chamber, in-house MRI, and minimally invasive procedures like tracheal stenting, laparoscopy and arthroscopy.  CVC still has the only in-house veterinary MRI within a 50-mile radius.

“Our goal is to be at the forefront of technology for veterinary medicine,” Chauvet said,” and our purpose has always been to benefit our clients and the animal companions they love.”
